I was a full-fledged, card-carrying member of “Procrastinators unite... tomorrow” for YEARS.
Sure, there may be positive ways to look at why we procrastinate but for me, it’s mostly a problem. It’s been helpful for me to identify WHY I default to procrastination on any given day.
I procrastinate for one (or more) of the following reasons:
- I’m afraid to fail and I’m fixated on perfection.
- I don’t believe I can complete a task.
- I don’t know how to do it.
So this basically comes up every day.
In his book, Eat That Frog (SO good), Brian Tracy recommends that we plan our days out in advance, determine what we need to learn and practice so “I don’t know how to do this” is no longer an excuse AND we need to put our phones away to minimize distractions.
Then, we need to eat the BIGGEST “frog” first. What’s that thing that you’ve been dreading? That’s your biggest frog. Do that thing first and nothing else in your day will feel insurmountable.
This builds confidence and momentum forward.
What’s YOUR biggest frog right now? Let’s plan our tomorrow right now and determine the top 3 things we want to tackle and eat the biggest frog first.
You can do this. We can do this. Procrastinators unite NOW.
(Cue epic ballad now...)
